Route Overview

This is one of the hardest Thames Path day trips from London because the railway is no longer close to the river. Treat it as a long rural day and plan the transfers before setting out.

Alternatively stay at Rose Revived in Newbridge, camp at Newbridge Farm or The Trout at Tadpole Bridge at the trailhead. Then in lechdale there are multiple hotels and campsites.

Bus / Taxi Warning

This section cannot be completed by train alone. Both ends sit away from the railway, so treat the buses or taxis as part of the route plan, not a backup.

Train, Bus and Taxi Notes

Use Oxford or Swindon as the main railheads. For Newbridge, plan a taxi or local buses via Abingdon/Oxford where the timetable works. For Lechlade, check Pulhams route 64 between Swindon and Lechlade, and pre-book a taxi if the limited bus times do not fit the walk.
